The History of Watermark

The History of Watermark

In 2007, a team of seasoned security professionals with a passion for protecting others set out on a mission. Watermark Risk Management International, LLC, a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), was born. We started by leveraging our deep knowledge of DoD security programs to help businesses navigate the ever-changing landscape of security threats.

Growth Through Expertise

  • Our early success with Fortune 500 companies and security-focused firms solidified our reputation for excellence.

  • What started out as a two-person consultancy, grew into a small, dedicated team of security and emergency management professionals supporting a DoD and commercial client base.

Strategic Growth Focus:

  • Kevin Hodges, a security veteran himself, joined us in 2011 as VP of Security Solutions. His leadership and strategic vision were instrumental in our growth focusing on new client’s and new services.

  • By 2014, Kevin became Watermark’s President focused on client delivery and growth strategies. Under his guidance, Watermark secured its first international contract and established itself on two GSA schedules opening the avenue for accelerated growth.

  • By 2018, Watermark was a team of approximately 32 professionals supporting a handful of clients with security program management services.

A Legacy of Excellence Continues:

  • In February 2019 Kevin and his wife Angela acquired Watermark and began deliberately investing in the company to build capability designed for rapid growth and honing our core focus in providing services in the national security domain. Their investment included the reshaping of our core values to support the culture we’ve established by being centered on our team members so they can be focused on our client’s mission.

  • Watermark's core values of exceptional service and unwavering commitment to client success has remained at the forefront and our services offering and clients base has continued to grow with our team members providing professional services to Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Air Force, Space Force, U.S Coast Guard, U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Guard, and multiple other government and commercial clients.

  • Our services include law enforcement administration, security program management, risk management framework, systems engineering, acquisition support, software support, test and evaluation, and training and education services.

  • Today Watermark is a team of nearly 80 dedicated team members supporting our clients. The Department of Labor awarded Watermark the Hire Vet Gold Award 4 years in a row, with 2024 being our first year to receive the Platinum Award for our additional efforts in supporting military veterans in the workplace. We are also a back-to-back winner for the Washington Post’s Best Place to Work in the National Capital Region for 2023 and 2024, and we won our first ever Inc.5000's Best Places to Work in 2024.
